When the Path Is Foggy, Look for the Small Miracles

This was taken August 18,2025, day one of my third Camino Frances.
It was a magical, mystical, misty, magnificent Monday morning on the Camino.
The fog was so thick I couldn’t see far ahead of me.
Not to either side.
Not even behind me.
I could hear cowbells in the distance, the breeze in my ears, and the steady rhythm of my own footsteps.
It was cold and drizzly, and I was very much by myself — which felt peaceful and magical. And to be honest, a bit unsettling.
In that moment, I realized I had a choice.
I could worry about what I couldn’t see…or I could focus on what was right in front of me.
So I slowed down.
That’s when I noticed this little plant, covered in raindrops, glowing and twisting in so many beautiful shades of green. Something so small, yet so full of life and quiet beauty.
It felt like a gentle reminder from the path: Even when you don’t know what’s coming next, there is still beauty here.
Still wonder.
Still something to be grateful for.
How often in our own lives do we worry about what we can’t yet see — the next chapter, the next decision, the next unknown — and miss the small miracles already surrounding us?
That morning on the Camino taught me that slowing down isn’t falling behind.
It’s choosing to really be present.
It’s choosing to trust that this step, right here, is enough.
So today, I ask you — where in your life could you slow down and notice the small, beautiful things?
Maybe it’s in a quiet cup of coffee.
A walk around your neighborhood.
A moment of stillness before the day begins.
Wherever you are on your own path, I hope you find a little bit of green, a little bit of light, and a reminder that you are exactly where you need to be.
